Dear members, We are thrilled to announce that our premier prize for this year's Regional Exhibition is R10 000!! So start getting your entries in for the 2021 Regional Exhibition - there is less than two months to go - and you don't want to miss out! Don't forget to enter your portrait wall hanging pieces for the invitational section. This is the non-curated part of the exhibition and all entries will be accepted unless they do not meet the gallery standards. Please read through the infographic below to understand the submission criteria. 2021 REGIONAL EXHIBITION Our Western Cape Regional Exhibition will once again be hosted by the Rust-en-Vrede gallery from 14 November until 10 December this year. We will again be following a similar process to last year’s online submission - please take note of the key dates below. As we cannot predict what the pandemic will be like in November, we will be using our tried and tested method of online selection, however we hope that we will be able to have a physical opening on 14 November, if all goes well. How to enter: Like last year, the submission and selection of work for the Regional Exhibition will take place online. We will provide members with the link to the online entries at a later stage. For details on the various categories available and how to submit your entries, please carefully read through our Regional Exhibition infographic here. Meet our Regional Exhibition judge - Zizipho Poswa! We are thrilled and honoured to welcome Zizipho Poswa, well-known ceramicist and co-founder of Imiso Ceramics, as our judge for our 2021 Regional Exhibition! Read more about Zizipho here. Diarize these dates for the Regional Exhibition! CHUMA MAWENI WORKSHOP: 20 AUG Don't miss this amazing online workshop, available via Quicket from 20 August 2021. In this online video workshop, Chuma Maweni demonstrates his process, and invites in his journey of creating these masterpieces. The hour long video workshop covers the build, carving, attachments, finishing and firing. A calm, friendly talk through the steps, this workshop is informative and satisfying to watch. A master of hand-thrown ceramics, Chuma's distinctive approach combines contemporary hand-coiled shapes marked with precisely patterned incision. From his studio in Woodstock, Cape Town, he makes exquisitely crafted ceramic vessels and furniture, the latter finding their largest form to date in his sought-after Imbizo series of tables, side-tables and stool. The video workshop will remain available on demand until 24th September once you purchase your ticket. Due to COVID-19 measures and documenting equipment available, the workshop was filmed by the artist himself. The only way to fit the tall pots into frame was to film in portrait-mode. Look out for the following workshops, coming up over the next few months: • An introduction to hand building from Natasha Human of Clayhands. • The making of a traditional cooking pot using the coiling technique by Lungiswa Joe • A workshop Sinethemba Xola in September.
